Charles William ‘Bill’ McLain

MCLAIN, Charles William "Bill," 78, of Irondale, Ohio, passed away suddenly at his home of natural causes, Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009.

He was born June 11, 1931 in Irondale, the son of the late Edgar Earl and Helen Marie James McLain.

Bill was an avid hunter of turtles and rabbits.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean War, and received the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the National Defense Medal.

He is retired after 18 years from the Colt Industries, Crucible, Inc., of Midland, Pa.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Anna Quinn McLain, who passed away July 7, 1987, and whom he married June 16, 1956; brothers, John E. "Jack" and James E. McLain; sisters, Rachel W. McLain and Esther M. Spreainde.

His survivors are son James E. McLain of Sherwood, Ark.; daughters, Anna Matthews and husband Keith of Empire, Ohio, Diane Taylor of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Rachel Farnsworth and husband George of Salineville, Ohio; brother, Glen D. McLain and wife Carol of Toronto, Ohio; sisters, Ruth E. Perkins of Irondale, Mary A. Maze of Salem, Ohio, and Jean Nicholson and husband Oliver of Irondale; grandchildren, David Matthews and wife Jennifer of Carrollton, Ohio, Kevin Matthews and wife Erika of Bloomingdale, Ohio, Kweilyn Taylor and William Taylor of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.,, Tina Cehrs and husband Robert of East Liverpool, Ohio, Rachelle Farnsworth of Salineville, Ohio, and Elizabeth Farnsworth of East Liverpool, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Kya Farnsworth of Salineville, Natalie and Riley Matthews of Bloomingdale, and Garrett Cehrs of East Liverpool, Ohio.

Friends and family will gather for visitation 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St. , Toronto.

A celebration service of Bill's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 17, at the funeral home with the Rev. Alvin Talkington officiating.

Burial will follow at the Morning View Cemetery Irondale, Ohio

The family requests no live flowers due to family member allergies.
