Churches list upcoming activities

Christmas programs, parties planned throughout the Gem City

TORONTO - Three Toronto churches have announced their upcoming activities.

Activities at the North River Avenue Christian Church include:

Sunday - The white gift and youth Christmas musical will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Lois Popejoy will lead the musical "Footprints to the Manger." Church caroling at local nursing homes and to shut-ins will begin at 6 p.m., and a signup sheet is posted on the church bulletin board.

Refreshments will be served after by Paul Cunningham and Ed Rex.

Dec. 24 - The Christmas cantata will begin at 7 p.m. The theme is "Glorious Impossible." All are welcome.

The junior church worship program for those ages 5 through fourth grade has begun. All youth go directly to the junior worship area downstairs.

The service begins at 9:45 a.m. Sundays.

Designated adults will lead along with Rob Minto.

Upcoming events at the First United Methodist Church include:

Today - Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets at 9 a.m.

Sunday - The rise and shine service will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. The children's Christmas program will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.

The Toronto Ministerial Association's Christmas concert begins at 6:30 p.m.

Monday - Bible study will be at 6 p.m. The quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. The administration council will meet at 7 p.m.

Tuesday - Bible study will be at 10 a.m. The Adventure Club will meet from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wednesday - The caring crafters will meet at 6 p.m. The choir will practice at 7 p.m.

Friday - Take Off Pounds Sensibly will meet at 5:30 p.m.

Upcoming events at the Riverview United Methodist Church include:

Today - Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m.

Dec. 20 - A children's service, along with the pastor's sermon, will be followed by the children's Christmas party in fellowship hall.

The Riverview paper drive is the third Saturday of each month, while the ecumenical men's dinner is the third Monday of each month.

The Toronto Unit of the Salvation Army is in the church and is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Those needing hats or mittens should call the Salvation Army at (740) 537-4737.

The Salvation Army's Prescription Assistance Program is available from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Thursday of each month.
