December 4, 2009

RAYLAND - Tiltonsville Fire Department responded to a call at 9:50 a.m Friday for a small explosion at Shelly and Sands Inc. asphalt terminal plant in Rayland.

According to Tiltonsville Fire Chief Doug Dugan, a small explosion occurred in a loading terminal while an asphalt tanker was being loaded. The tanker did not have any product in it at the time of the explosion.

There was no fire and only one minor injury, Dugan said.

Plant officials are still determining the cause of the explosion.

The Jefferson County Hazmat team was also on the scene to assist.
