NYC gourmet hits Main Street

Cafe opens Friday in Wintersville

November 22, 2009 - By JESS LOOMAN, Staff writer

WINTERSVILLE - Area residents will be able to get a taste of New York style cooking when the Main Street Cafe opens its doors at 299 Cadiz Road in Wintersville on Friday.

Shelley Wilkin, the cafe's owner, along with chefs Reggie Hallett, Joe Chesney, Kathy Burton and Bobbi Jo Agin hope to bring a unique taste to the valley.

"Most of our recipes came from Reggie, who has worked in the restaurant business in New York City for years," Wilkin said. "We hope that our menu will be seen as one that offers something unique to the area."

The menu will consist of surf and turf, shepherd's pie, chicken and biscuits, cabbage rolls over mashed potatoes, chicken and vegetable stir-fry, salsa chicken, orange chicken and baked fish as well as low-calorie choices including a turkey burger with a portabella mushroom bun, grilled veggie wrap, portabella mushroom sandwich, raw veggie wrap and chicken and tuna salads made with fat-free mayo.

"We want to be able to offer our customers different choices, and if someone comes in who is on a diet, we will be able to serve them well," Wilkin said.

Most dinners will be priced anywhere from $9.95 to $12.95 and include a choice of potatoes, sauteed veggies and salad bar.

Another unique aspect to the cafe is the fact that no fried food will be on the menu.

"We figured that you can get fried food anywhere," Wilkin explained. "We want to keep our menu fresh and healthy."

The Main Street Cafe will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
