Wintersville honors resident, police officers
By JESS LOOMAN, staff writerWINTERSVILLE - Mayor Bob Gale on Thursday presented village resident Pat Preto and village Patrolmen Christopher Wright and Jason Fabian with proclamations.
Gale told Village Council members that Preto on Nov. 9 noticed her neighbor's car running in the garage. Preto called 911 and inevitably saved her neighbor's life, Gale said.
Patrolman Wright responded to the call and found Rita Ivy laying inside her home suffering from carbon monoxide ingestion, Gale said. Patrolman Fabian was off duty at the time but heard the call and went to assist Wright.
Councilman Robert Martin expressed thanks to all three individuals.
"Mrs. Preto performed a great deed to her neighbor, and I would personally like to thank her," he said. "Our police responded in a timely manner and were great as always. Thank you all." In other matters, Village Administrator Walt Zambia briefed council on the cost of a new roof for the water treatment plant.
"We are looking at spending $7,750 on the roof," Ziemba explained. "We have the funds to finish the project and I would like to have it completed by the end of the year."
In other business, council:
Announced village offices will be closed Thursday and Nov. 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The sanitation changes for the holiday are Monday and Tuesday's garbage will be collected on Monday; Wednesday's garbage will be collected on Tuesday; Thursday's garbage will be collected on Wednesday; and Friday's garbage will collected on Nov. 27.
The village's annual Christmas parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 29 starting at Riesbeck's. The parade will end at the Municipal Complex.
The Ray Laman Children's Christmas party is set from 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Wintersville Fire and Rescue Department.
