All-OVAC teams announcedNovember 13, 2009From staff reports The Division I Brooke girls and Wheeling Park boys soccer teams came away as the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Cup champions and their coaches and standout soccer players were honored as the all-OVAC teams have been announced. For the Bruins, Brittany DeCapio was named the Player of the Year and Lee Weppler the Coach of the Year. The Patriots' Josh Henderson was the Player of the Year and Mario Julian the Coach of the Year. Brooke's Justyne Obeldobel, Ashley Wilcox and Maci Hascak joined DeCapio on the first team, as did Indian Creek's Allana Sida. The Redskins, who had their best season in years on the boys side, had three players named to the first team - A.J. Brettell, Bryan Bowers and Nick Van Kirk. They were joined by Brooke's Kris McLaughlin and Nick Cozad. Honorable Mention selections were Indian Creek's Brandon Staudacher, Caleb Thomas, Kristin Wendell and Andrea Callaway and the Bruins' Derek Wayne, Cody Schwertfeger, Megan Smith and Madison Schultz. For the boys in Division II, Weir's Chad Ford was selected as the Player of the Year with Oak Glen's Sam Paletta the Coach of the Year. Joining Ford on the first team were teammates Stephen Felton, Chester Barnabei and John Pennacchio. Other first-team picks were Steubenville's Stephen Rossi, Robert Hines and Xavier McAllister, Oak Glen's Kyle Fields and Seth Tustin and Edison's James Mullins. Honorable Mention choices were Weir's Tyler Salko and Cameron Rauch, Big Red's Chris Nehrbas and Kyle Gaughan, Oak Glen's Jomar Shaffer and Jonathan Smearman and Edison's Chris Haught and Shane Stacy. The Red Riders' Kassi Robinson was selected as the Division II Player of the Year and Chris LeFever as the Coach of the Year. Joining Robinson were teammates Bobbie Jo Julian, Megan Duke and Milena Maragos, along with Edison's Jordan Byrley and Carissa Myler, Steubenville's Jocelyn Pugh and Oak Glen's Haley Powell. Honorable Mention picks were Weir's Nikki Robinson and Monica Pennacchio, Edison's Kayla Brown and Kim Judy, Oak Glen's Brittany Loveland and Haley Baird and Big Red's Megan Keenan and Julie Myers. In Division III, Catholic Central had first-team selections in Amanda Looman, Margaret Beigel, Christina Duff, Anna Shaw, Jacob Duska and Philippe Rigaud, along with Madonna's Lizzy Schloss and Lia Capito. Honorable Mention choices were the Blue Dons' Kara Mezan and Abbie Felton and the Crusaders' Sarah Morrow, Kristina Vosteen, Peter Herrmann and Andrew Duska. Tyler Consolidated's Spencer Kinnard was the Player of the Year and Scott Wall the Coach of the Year. Linsly's Erica Hall was the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and Alex Frawley the Player of the Year. |
