November 13, 2009 - By MARK J. MILLER, Staff writer

WINTERSVILLE - Mingo Junction resident Bob Smith emerged victorious in a three-way race for an Indian Creek Local School District Board seat following the Nov. 3 election, according to unofficial tallies from the Jefferson County Board of Elections.

Tallies from Tuesday's race for the unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2011, show Smith won by earning 2,358 votes, or 42 percent, to incumbent Marc A. DeSantis' 1,935 votes, or 34 percent, and challenger Candy Newburn's 1,328 votes, or 24 percent, of the vote total.

Smith thanked voters for their support of his candidacy. "I'd like to thank everyone for their support," he said. "I'm very happy I won." The other Indian Creek school board seat race was unopposed, with John N. Figel gathering 3,991 votes and Daniel Bove Jr. obtaining 3,399 votes.
