DENTZ, Donald A. "Don", 79 of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away Saturday November 7, 2009 at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville, under the care of Valley Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born August 23, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Allen Guy and Edith May (Boley) Dentz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death two sons, John Leslie Dentz and Charles Scott "Chuckie" Dentz and fifteen brothers and sisters.
Don worked for 30 years as a forklift operator at Ohio Ferro Alloy Plant in Brilliant. After his retirement he worked for 13 years at Mazeroski Golf Course in Rayland as a grass cutter and golf cart maintenance man.
Don served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was Methodist by Faith. He loved to feed and watch the birds and he also loved people, especially his family.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Katherine Elizabeth (Nichols) Dentz, whom he married September 15, 1950; four sons, Donald Allen Dentz of Wheeling, W.Va., Robert Lee (Gina) Dentz of Martins Ferry, Ohio, Ronald James Dentz of Yorkville, Ohio and James Arthur (Koren) Dentz of Howardsville, Va.; two daughters, Lois Ann (Art) Jones of Brilliant and Mary Elizabeth (Randall) Milkes of Tennessee; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his favorite dog, Lucky Penny.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant on Monday from 6-9 and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at Noon, with Pastor Jeff Seigler, officiating. Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
