Anna Riska marking her 101st birthday

Anna Riska turns 101 today.

Anna used to run Cecelone's Department Store in Follansbee.

Everyone knows her as "Aunt Annie," we're told.

She still likes to play bingo two times a week at the senior center.

She likes to do her own grocery shopping and is hoping to hit the Powerball.

Baseball group to sponsor benefit

The Jewett-Scio Baseball group will sponsor a benefit for the Harrison County American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

A snowball turkey softball tournament will be held Nov. 28 at the Scio ball fields. The 10-person team can be comprised of men, women or coed. There is no restrictions, more than 10 players can be on a team if subs are desired. The cost is $100 per team.

A trophy will be awarded for the winning team overall, a trophy for the highest placing team entered by a business and $250 awarded for the highest placing team entered by a non-profit organization. There also will be a concession stand with hot foods and drinks, a cornhole tournament and a 50/50 cash drawing.

MIngo council to hold Memorial Mass

Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 will hold its annual Memorial Mass Nov. 19 at St. Agnes Church.

The council also is selling "Keep Christ in Christmas" magnets. They can be obtained at the hall or after weekend Masses at St. Agnes. Cost is $3. Items for the food drive can be dropped off at the members' lounge Monday through Friday after 6:30 p.m. Food will be given to the Mingo community food drive for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Breakfast with Santa planned

Breakfast with Santa will be held at Treasure Island Marketplace in Wintersville Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. Cost is $5 per person and includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links and juice.

Children will receive a goodie bag from Santa. Parents and guardians will be permitted to take pictures of children with Santa.

Candle lighting to be held

The Hancock County Senior Wellness Center on Gas Valley Road in New Cumberland will host a candle lighting ceremony for families touched by Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The solemn program is part of a national observance sponsored by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and will include poetry and music.

Those interested in participating or having their family members' names included on a list of Alzheimer's and dementia victims should call (304) 564-3801.

A.B.A.T.E. to hold euchre play

The Upper Ohio Valley Chapter of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education will hold a euchre tournament to benefit Coats for Kids Nov. 14 at Legends Cafe in Weirton. Sign-ups will begin at 1 p.m. for the event, which will begin at 2 p.m. and include food, prizes and a 50-50 drawing. There will be a $5 entrance fee. For information, call (304) 527-7066.

Church to hold Christmas bazaar

St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Three Springs Drive will hold a Christmas bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be a variety of Christmas crafts, baked goods, soup and sandwiches for sale.
