By WARREN SCOTT, Staff writerBEECH BOTTOM - A Bellaire man was arrested in Beech Bottom by Brooke County sheriff's deputies and Wellsburg Police after leading area law enforcement officers on a chase that began in Ohio County late Saturday.
Brian A. Coffman, 24, of Bellaire has been charged with reckless driving and is facing pending charges of fleeing in a vehicle, passing in a no passing zone, failure to obey a stop sign, fleeing on foot, leaving a running vehicle unattended and driving while license revoked in connection with the incident.
It has been reported that Coffman fled from Ohio County sheriff's deputies after striking a vehicle at the Highlands in Wheeling.
Brooke County sheriff's deputies said they were notified by the Ohio County sheriff's deputies they had broken off a pursuit of the driver of a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed into the south end of Brooke County.
The reports said Coffman failed to stop when a sheriff's deputy and Wellsburg patrolman activated their lights, then passed two vehicles in a no passing zone on state Route 2, before veering onto High Street in Beech Bottom.
Sheriff's deputies said Coffman passed by a stop sign at Third Street before turning onto First Street, apparently unaware it was a dead end street. Sheriff's deputies said Coffman attempted to turn around but backed his truck over an embankment and it became stuck.
According to reports, Coffman fled from the vehicle, leaving it running, and was apprehended near a residence on Second Street.
