Redskins down Union Local MORRISTOWN — The Indian Creek volleyball team finished its regular-season play with an 18-25, 25-15, 25-8, 25-17 victory over host Union Local on Thursday. Floor-leader Christina Furda totaled 33 assists, seven digs, two points, two aces, two kills and two blocks, while outside hitting Morgan Reducha finished with 16 kills, 11 points, six digs, two blocks and two aces for the Redskins. Taylor Fithen added 13 points, 12 digs, nine kills and two blocks, Emily Mathieu 12 points, 12 digs and two aces, Brittany Vella 12 digs, seven points, five kills, three blocks and an ace, Aubrie Gaydosh one kill and McCall Sims two blocks and a kill. The Redskins will take on Beaver Local at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Steubenville High School in one Class AAAA semifinal of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference tournament. Purple Riders defeat Buckeye Local RAYLAND?— Visiting Martins Ferry earned a 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 volleyball victory over Buckeye Local on Thursday. Alyssa Otto had nine points, four kills, three digs and two aces for the Panthers, while Shayla Czuchran had eight kills, five blocks and a point and Sydney Omaits nine points, six assists and two aces. Taylor Campbell led the Purple Riders with 10 points, eight aces, seven kills, four assists and two blocks and Taylor Kuminkowski nine points, five aces, two kills and two blocks. Huskies lose to Newcomerstown NEWCOMERSTOWN — The Harrison Central volleyball team lost a 25-13, 25-15, 25-23 decision to host Newcomerstown Thursday. Megan Albaugh finished with seven kills, five assists and five points for the Huskies, while teammate Haley Harrison had nine assists and eight points, Kasey Bethel six kills, five digs and four points and Taylar Kenny five kills. Harrison?Central ends the season at 5-15 and will take on Martins Ferry at Claymont High on Monday in the Division III?sectional tournament. SHS?Key Club to accept donations STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Key Club members will collect donations tonight at Harding Stadium during the Big Red vs. Poland football game in the Big Red Battles Breast Cancer Night 2009. The high school staff also asks fans to wear pink to the game to support breast cancer awareness.  Lady Barons?to host Dig Pink STEUBENVILLE?— The Franciscan University of Steubenville’s volleyball team will host Hilbert College at 1 p.m. on Oct. 24. A “Dig Pink” a breast cancer awareness event will also be held. All proceeds will go to help fight breast cancer.
