Son faces additional charges in dad’s death
By MARK LAW, Staff writerSTEUBENVILLE - Investigators today will continue working to gather evidence in the murder case of Shelby F. Miller, 56, of 102 Boyce St., East Liverpool, who was shot once in the back of the head along a creek in northern Jefferson County.
Travis N. Miller, 27, of Deer Lodge, Tenn., was brought back to Jefferson County on Sunday from Tennessee and faces current charges of theft of a credit card and theft of a vehicle.
Shelby Miller's body was found Thursday evening not far from Yellow Creek off state Route 213, Hammondsville.
His family had told Columbiana County authorities they hadn't heard from Shelby Miller since Monday. An autopsy performed in Cuyahoga County showed Shelby Miller was probably shot to death on Monday, according to the Jefferson County coroner's office.
Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla tracked Travis Miller down in Tennessee based on information from Columbiana County authorities. Travis Miller was arrested at a hospital in Anderson County, Tenn. His mother was living in Tennessee, and authorities there found Shelby Miller's vehicle behind the mother's house.
Abdalla and deputies traveled to Tennessee this weekend to take Travis Miller into custody. Agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation were to continue processing the vehicle today at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
Abdalla said Travis Miller was to be arraigned today or Tuesday on the theft of credit cards and theft of vehicle charges. The county prosecutor's office is still considering what other charges may be filed against Travis Miller.
"He was cooperative with me," Abdalla said of interviews with Travis Miller. "He was respectful. That was the military training in him."
Abdalla said Shelby Miller and Travis Miller had a bad relationship.
The sheriff said he interviewed several other people in Tennessee over the weekend who could be potential witnesses.
