JCC HIRES: Jefferson Community College announces the hiring of two faculty and one staff members.

Connie Moore of Steubenville was hired as a full-time instructor for the clinical laboratory sciences program. This is a one-year position to fill the post of Sondra Sutherland, associate professor, who has been assigned as academic director of special projects.

Moore holds a bachelor's degree in medical technology from Franciscan University of Steubenville where she is working on her master's degree in education. Her memberships include the American Society of Clinical Pathology and American Society of Clinical Lab Science. She worked at Trinity Medical Center East and Riverside Medical of Ohio. She began working part time at the college in 1997.

Robert Vance of Mingo Junction was hired for one year as a biology instructor.

He holds an associate of applied science degree from JCC, a bachelor's degree in natural science from Shawnee State University and a master's degree in entomology plant pathology from the University of Tennessee. He taught at West Virginia Northern Community College. He began teaching part time at JCC in 2001.

Jacqueline McCoy of Rayland has advanced from the coordinator of the Adult Basic Literacy Education program to director of adult learning at the college. She oversees the Learning Skills Lab, developmental education, Adult Basic Literacy Education and the Perkins Grant.

McCoy, who began her career at the college in 2006, served on the Workforce Investment Board for Area 16 and Ohio's Career Readiness Credential project.

EARNS DOCTORATE: John Romanek, an assistant professor at Jefferson Community College, has earned his doctorate degree in psychology.

An instructor of psychology since 1994, Romanek was awarded the degree from North Central University. He also holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University and a master's degree in clinical psychology from Marshall University.

Romanek, a Wheeling resident, also taught at Wheeling Jesuit, Marshall and West Virginia Northern Community College. He belongs to the American Psychological Association.

ADMITTED TO BAR: Christopher R. Wells has been admitted to the Ohio Bar Association and was sworn in by the state Supreme Court on May 18.

The son of Richard and Tina Wells of Steubenville, he earned his bachelor's degree from Grove City College and earned his law degree from the University of Akron. He will practice law in the Akron and Cleveland area.

EMMY NOMINATED: Karen Kafton of Follansbee was part of a team nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for Comcast's On Demand programming on the dedication of the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute at West Virginia University.

Also on the nominated team was Kym Gable, a former anchor at WTOV-TV.
