Ruth Harper

HARPER, Ruth Ackman, 88, of Burgettstown, Hanover Township, Pa., died on Monday September 14, 2009, in the North Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wexford, Pa.

She was born on January 30, 1921, a daughter of the late Charles and Edna Ehle Ackman.

Mrs. Harper was a graduate of the Union High School in Burgettstown, and cosmetology school in New Brighten. She worked as a teller for Mellon Bank in Aliquippa. After retiring from Mellon Bank, she worked as a secretary for the Raccoon Creek State Park.

She was a member of the Frankfort Presbyterian Church, and a charter member of the Frankfort Springs Grange.

An avid quilter, she was a member of the Panhandle Piecemakers Quilters. She also enjoyed gardening, and most especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and family.

Her husband, E. Dwight Harper, passed away in October 1972.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a grandson, Danny Doak; and a brother, Donald Ackman.

Surviving are her three daughters, Sharen Laquatra and husband, Santo of Bradfordwoods, Pa., Carol Reed and husband, Hub of Burgettstown, and Cheryl "Ginger" Doak, wife of the late Tom of El Mirage, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Zbilut and husband, Paul, Glen Brady and wife, Paula, John Reed, Tami Reed, and Stephanie Horne and husband David; and six great-grandchildren, Addison Brady, Brittany Reed, Abby Angus, Mackenzi Ruth Angus, Zoey Horne and Megyn Horne.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Ave., Burgettstown, where services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery, Florence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Burgettstown Athletic Scholarship Foundation, 104 Bavington Road, Burgettstown, Pa. 15021.
