Comment accepted on use of public funds

WHEELING - The Wheeling campus of West Virginia Northern Community College will host one of five regional meetings at which public comment will be accepted on the use of about $28 million in federal Housing and Urban Development Funds to be distributed to communities in West Virginia.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in room 316.

Programs funded by the money are Small Cities Block Grants, Emergency Shelter Grants and H.O.M.E., programs such as the First-time Homebuyers Program, which provides grants to eligible first-time homebuyers in the Northern Panhandle.

Information gathered through the meetings will be used to draft a five-year plan for the spending that will be available for review and public comment in 2010.

Scrabble play session Wednesday

STEUBENVILLE - Area Scrabble enthusiasts are invited to join for the monthly session of play Wednesday in room 1506 at Jefferson Community College.

Play time will run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with newcomers welcome and encouraged to bring the board game if they have one. No fees are charged.
