Man jailed in high speed chase
By MARK J. MILLER, Staff writerSTEUBENVILLE - A Mingo Junction man is being held in the Jefferson County Jail today on pending charges after leading sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase Thursday evening on U.S. Route 22.
The episode began shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday when sheriff's deputies pulled over a vehicle heading east on Route 22 after a deputy noticed the vehicle had crossed marked lanes, according to sheriff's reports. Deputies approached the vehicle and questioned the driver, identified as Daniel Renforth, 23, 328 Lincoln Ave., Mingo Junction. A passenger, James A Roe, 26, 400A High Street, Brilliant, also was questioned, according to reports.
Deputies discovered there were outstanding arrest warrants for both men, including a warrant for Renforth's arrest on burglary charges from Columbiana County; and a bench warrant for failure to appear in Jefferson County for Roe, stated the sheriff's report.
Deputies asked both men to exit the vehicle, taking Roe into custody. Renforth refused and sped off, leading deputies on a high-speed chase west on Route 22. The vehicle reportedly hit a series of road cones near the Hopedale exit before going over an embankment and rolling several times, according to the report.
Renforth then exited the vehicle and fled on foot before eventually being apprehended hiding on a nearby resident's porch. He was transported by deputies to Trinity West Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries before being transported to the county jail.
