Walter J. Taylor Sr.

TAYLOR, Walter J. Sr., 96, of Wellsburg, died June 28, 2009, in the Laurels, Steubenville, Ohio. He was born November 11, 1912, in Williamson, W.Va.

He was retired from the Department of Highways and was also previously a coal miner.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers and attended Henderson Chapel AME, Wellsburg, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Randall and Mamie Marie McKissick Taylor; one son, Walter James Taylor Jr., whom passed July of 1985; son-in-law, Donald E. Davis, whom passed in 2001; five brothers, George Jr., Earl, Ray, Edgar, Percy Taylor; two sisters, Cleopatra Wray and Juanita Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa M. Armstead Taylor whom he married April 26, 1934; four sons, Floyd "Fred" Austin Taylor and his wife, Sadie of Cleveland, Ohio, Edgar Lamarr Taylor and his wife, Effie of Las Vegas, Nev., Larry Taylor and his wife, Jessica of Lake Jackson, Texas; one daughter, Delores M. Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, and special friend, Wilson Christian of Detroit, Mich.; adopted son, Councilman Joe McAllister and his wife, Margaret of Wellsburg, W.Va.; one sister, Ermal L. Royal of Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Mary Taylor of Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous amounts of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and godchildren.

Viewing will be Sunday, July 5, 2009, from 2-4 p.m. at Reasner Funeral Home, 1515 Charles Street, Wellsburg.

A wake will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at the Wellsburg Christian Church, 1003 Charles St., Wellsburg, 26070, with the Rev. Carl Terry III, Henderson Chapel AME Church, Wellsburg, officiating.

Interment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, W.Va.
