POSTED: July 2, 2009

WINTERSVILLE --- A new member of the Winterville Police Department was introduced Thursday during council's regular meeting.

Patrolman Art Fowler presented council with the new police dog. Fowler and year-old Belgian Malinois, Ali, recently completed 90 hours of training and have already been out on the streets, Fowler noted.

The dog joins a 7-year-old German Shepherd, Luck, pronounced "Luke," to enable the K-9 task force to be active for 12 hours a day, month long.

In other matters, council announced they received a $106,840 grant through the Ohio Public Works Commission for the completion of paving projects on Locust Street, Orchard Street, Orchard Place and Old Main Street. Council will begin bidding for the project and will have bids by the next meeting on July 16, according to Administrator Walt Ziemba.
