Wintersville Post 557 splits a twinbill

WELLSBURG - Wintersville Post 557 defeated Wellsburg, 11-1, and then dropped a 7-6 decision to Wheeling on Sunday in the Wellsburg Post 334 American Legion tournament.

Josh Malesky grabbed the five-inning win. He struck out five, walked four and allowed four hits.

Post 557 had nine hits, all singles. Daniel Dunlevy had two of them.

Wintersville trailed Wheeling Post 1 3-0 after four innings, but scored two in the fifth and one in the top of the sixth to tie it.

Wheeling retaliated with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Post 557 scored three in the top of the seventh and had runners on second and third, but could not get the tying run.
