15 arrested in Steubenville sting operation

STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Drug Task Force and City Police arrested 15 men Wednesday and Thursday in a reverse prostitution sting operation in the downtown area.

One of the men arrested is a registered sex offender, and another man was arrested in August during a similar prostitution sting.

Police Capt. John Young, who is acting chief this week, said, "We will not tolerate prostitution in the city. We will put an end to this."

Terrance E. Zerla, 45, of 139 Forestview Drive, Wintersville, was arrested on a charge of soliciting prostitution. He has two prior rape convictions and is a Tier III registered sex offender, which requires him to register his address with the county sheriff's department.

Paul E. Bonecutter, 71, of township Road 200, Bloomingdale, was arrested for the second time in less than a year for soliciting prostitution.

Ernest F. Jack, 54, of 170 N. 9th St., Wellsburg, who is the former mayor of Wellsburg and current water superintendent, also was picked up for soliciting for prostitution

Sanford W. Berman, 77, of 1809 Williams Place, the owner of a real estate business in the city, also was arrested on a charge of soliciting for prostitution.

Also arrested were the following men:

Gregory E. Gowin, 35, of 192 Second St., Bloomingdale.

Selwyn F. Ellis, 54, of 1047 Main St.

Rommel J. Dallas, 84, of 3724 Argonne Ave.

Locke E. Goodman, 32, of East Liverpool.

Warner G. Springer, 61, of 2000 township Road 61, Hammondsville.

George D. Starkey Jr., 50, of 166 Parkview Drive, Wintersville.

Daniel Price, 38, of 132 School St., Weirton.

Timothy A. Mulholland, 28, of Pittsburgh.

John F. Davis, 41, of RD 2, Wellsburg.

Gary P. Fanzo, 43, of Triadelphia.

William V. Gualtiere, 52, of 145 Karen Place, Wintersville.

The 15 arrested were to appear today in municipal court.

Front page article, 15 pictures, misdemeaner crime. This time, this news paper truely embarrassed itself and those few. I doubt anyone would consider this punishment bestoed on those few by this paper as it's duty. I can only hope the shame you brought is returned to you.
