Howard M. Clutter

CLUTTER, Howard M. "Bub," 83, of Steubenville, Ohio, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born March 4, 1926, in St. Marys, W.Va., a son of the late Clarence J. and Margerie Bayles Clutter.

Bub was the owner and operator of American Cleaners of Wintersville and Clutter Tile. He was also known as the "Corn Man."

He was a Marine veteran serving during WWII in Company I, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Division as a corporal and was a survivor of the battle of Iwo Jima.

He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Action Ribbon.

He was a member of Amazing Grace Church of Christ, Follansbee, W.Va.; Masonic Lodge 45 and Wintersville American Legion Post 557.

He was the founding member of the Band of Brothers Breakfast Club and a former member and past president of Wintersville High School Boosters Club.

Preceding Bub in death was his wife, Caralane Anna Geary Clutter and brother, Edward Dean Clutter.

Surviving are his two daughters, Terri (Dr. Ted) Starkey of Wintersville, and Erin (Marc) DeSantis of Steubenville, Ohio; son Geary Clutter of Steubenville; four grandsons, Brant (Andrea) Starkey of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Dr. Ryan (Christie) Starkey of Steubenville, Trenton Starkey stationed in Norfolk, Va., and Cullen DeSantis of Steubenville; five great-grandchildren, Camdyn, Brayden, Lynden, Abigail and Ian Starkey; special friend, Sara Bogard of Calcutta, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins and Band of Brothers Breakfast Buddies, George Wilson, Jim McClain, Abe Bryan, Don Bradley, Jock Dickenson, Leonard Ellis, Charlie Green, Ken Kromer, Len Masci, Don McLaughlin, Ron Millanti, Sal Pate, Bob Phillipson, Keith Price, Fred Rogers, Ray Simmons, Frank Vallera, Chuck Warrington, George Glikes, Butch Irvin, Clyde Morelli, Jay Kolenc and Art Panepucci.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville Friday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. where a service will be held Saturday 10 a.m. with Minister Bill Rhodes officiating.

Burial at Fort Steuben where military honors will be provided by I&I Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines out of Moundsville, W.Va.
