City elections are set for Tuesday
By WARREN SCOTT, Staff writerRaces for mayor and other city positions will be decided in elections in Follansbee, Wellsburg and Bethany Tuesday.
Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Registered voters unable to cast their ballots then may vote today from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Follansbee City Building, Wellsburg City Hall and Bethany Town Hall.
Running for Wellsburg mayor are: incumbent Wayne A. Campbell of 57 25th St. and challenger Sue Simonetti of 1201 Main St.
Running for Follansbee mayor are: challenger John A. Casinelli of 1015 Virginia Ave. and incumbent Anthony Paesano of 1334 Main St.
Seeking the position of Follansbee police chief are challenger Larry Rea of 923 Jefferson St., and incumbent John W. Schwertfeger of 1083 Jefferson St.
Seeking a seat representing Follansbee's 3rd Ward are challenger Arthur D. Quattrocchi Jr. of 540 Mahan Ave., and incumbent Kathy L. Santoro of 605 Mahan Ave.
Running for Bethany mayor are John Cole of 103 Richardson St. and Jay Eisenhauer of 107 Roosevelt St. Incumbent Sven deJong has chosen not to seek re-election.
Eight also are running for five at-large seats on Bethany Council. They are: challenger Linda Chivers of Main Street, incumbent James Forrester of 103 Logan Court, challenger Bill Hicks of 101 Roosevelt Ave., incumbent Helen Moren of 202 Pendleton St., challenger Ted Pauls of 117 Roosevelt Ave., challenger Rebecca Rose of 303 Ross St., challenger Charles "Red" Schwertfeger of Church Street and incumbent Pat Sutherland of 101 Point Breeze Drive.
Other current council members are: Gray Williamson, who decided not to see re-election; and Eisenhauer.
Wellsburg's other candidates are:
1st Ward: Bruce Edward Hunter of Rear 818 Main St., and Raleigh Dean Mason of 720 High St. Incumbent Mike Mitchell has decided not to seek re-election.
3rd Ward: Pamela Ann Mason of 2200 Charles St., and William J. "Bill" Smith Sr. of 1809 Main St. Incumbent Ron Griffith has decided not to seek another term.
Marlene Shook of 2721 Charles St., submitted a letter to Wellsburg Council announcing her decision to withdraw as a candidate for a 4th Ward council seat, but it came too late for her name to be removed from ballots. Jerry L. Adams of 2409 Main St., is the unchallenged candidate for that seat.
Also unchallenged are: Wellsburg Police Chief Stanley W. Kins, Collector-Treasurer Francine Kraus and William D. "Bill" Furioli, a candidate for a seat representing the city's 2nd Ward.
Incumbent Paul T. Billiard has chosen not to seek re-election to the 2nd Ward seat.
Each of Wellsburg's four wards is represented by two council members. Because the terms are staggered, the other seats and the position of city clerk are up in 2011.
Unchallenged Follansbee officials are: 1st Ward Councilman James "J.J." Miller, 2nd Ward Councilman Tom DiBattista, 4th Ward Councilwoman Iris Ferrell, 5th Ward Councilman Tom Ludewig, Councilman at Large Jim Andreozzi, City Attorney Michael Gaudio and City Clerk David Kurcina.
Follansbee's polling places are as follows: 1st Ward, Follansbee Library; 2nd Ward, Follansbee City Building; 3rd and 5th wards: Follansbee Community House, with areas designated for each ward; and 4th Ward, the Roksandich residence at 1299 Walker Road.
In Wellsburg, the polling place for 2nd Ward residents has been changed from the Wellsburg Fire Station on 12th Street to the fire department's banquet hall across the street.
Other Wellsburg polling sites are: 1st Ward, Wellsburg Methodist Church on Charles Street; 3rd Ward: Wellsburg Baptist Church on Charles Street; and 4th Ward: Wellsburg Community of Christ Church on 26th Street.
All Bethany voters will cast their ballots at the Bethany Town Hall.
