BEECH BOTTOM - A short in a wall switch is believed to have caused a fire that caused extensive damage to a one-story home on 49 Hill Road Monday night, said Beech Bottom Fire Chief Roger Coulter.

Coulter said the owner of the house, Jason Kennedy, had been living elsewhere while renovating it and wasn't there when firefighters from Beech Bottom and Windsor Heights arrived at about 9:17 p.m.

The fire chief said no other people were inside the home. He said four kittens died in the blaze, but the firefighters were able to rescue one.

Coulter said a driver passing the home saw the fire and called 911, and it had spread to the rest of the house when the fire departments arrived. They remained on the scene until about 11:30 p.m., he said.
