HAMMONDSVILLE - Edison Local board of education members made the decision Monday to hire David Quattrochi as superintendent, officially removing his interim superintendent title.

The board members made the announcement following a special meeting of the board late Monday afternoon.

Board vice president Larry Crow stated early today that while approximately 12 people were originally interested in the position, only two had been interviewed by board members as possible candidates.

Crow said all board members, with the exception of Tom Cattrell, who was not present for the meeting, voted in favor of hiring Quattrochi.

"He's really helping us build trust within our community again and we know that he will do a good job for us," Crow said of the new superintendent. "We are fortunate."

Quattrochi first came to Edison at the start of the 2008-09 school year, assuming the position of assistant superintendent. Following former Superintendent Lisa Carmichael's resignation Dec. 1, Quattrochi took on the role of interim superintendent. Carmichael left the district to become superintendent in the Massillon City School District. She served with Edison for three years.

Quattrochi said early today he is in the process of relocating to the district and hopes to be moved into his new residence sometime this week. He commented he is "very thankful to the board for entrusting me with this important position."

"I am honored to be a part of this district and will do my very best to keep moving this district in a positive direction. I will work with every teacher, staff member and administrator to make sure our children receive the best education possible," he noted.

Quattrochi is a graduate of Toronto High School and a 1995 graduate of Old Dominion University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in history. He received his master's degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville and is in his fourth year of a doctorate program at West Virginia University anticipating graduation in August.

Quattrochi's educational experience includes being the assistant principal at Wintersville Elementary for one year and serving one year as principal at Wayne Elementary School. He then was principal of Wintersville Elementary for six years.
