BPW, Nike Club plan two events

Plans are being made by the Ohio Valley Business and Professional Women's Club and the Steubenville High School Nike Club for a Career Night and Shadow Day.

Career Night and the regular BPW business meeting will be held Nov. 18 and feature a catered dinner at 6 p.m. at the high school. Cost is $15.

Shadow Day will be Nov. 21.

Reservations must be submitted by Nov. 12 to ameliapro@yahoo.com or by calling (740) 282-1465.

Members also should indicate if they are able to host a shadow.

Wellsburg Kiwanis selling ornament

Wellsburg Kiwanis Club is selling an ornament depicting the Wellsburg Town Square and made by local artist Michelle Gorby. It is the second of a series begun last year with an ornament featuring the gazebo near the Sixth Street Wharf.

The cost is $10 each with an additional $5 for shipping and handling if needed. Proceeds go to community projects pursued by the club and its youth auxiliaries, K-Kids clubs at Wellsburg and Franklin primary schools, the Brooke High School Key Club and the Bethany College Circle K.

Sale to benefit Special Olympics

Sherry Stratton, a Signature Homestyles representative, will be selling assorted home decor and organizational products during a bingo event Sunday to benefit Brooke County Special Olympics.

The event will be held at 2 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 1300 Charles St., and include light refreshments.

Stratton will be selling a variety of items suited for Christmas gifts, with a portion of the proceeds going to Special Olympics.

All attendees will receive a free bingo card, with additional cards given to those who bring a guest, wear a Christmas pin or Christmas-themed clothing or purchase a Signature Homestyles item. Signatures Homestyles items also will be given as prizes.

Show Stoppers to entertain

A dinner show featuring the Carrollton Show Stoppers will be held Nov. 15 at the community center in Unionport.

Dinner is from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the show is at 7 p.m.

Reservations are needed. The deadline is ?Monday. Cost is $12 per person.

The group heard a report on the garage sale and "Apple Stirrin' Time Festival" at its meeting.

Pie contest winners announced

Winners in the old-fashioned apple pie baking contest held at the Apple Stirrin' Time festival were:

First place, Mrs. David Buchanan of Hudson; second place, Makara Eick and Rich Ault of Unionport; and third place, Betty Cingaloni of Bergholz.

Judges were Kay Sedgmer of the Martins Ferry Times Leader, Pat Tipton Korner of Aurora and Adam Granger of Circleville.

Nate Yeager of Bloomingdale won the quilt drawing. Other drawing winners were Bill Hennis of Unionport and Shirley Eick of Minerva.

Grafton hosts Country Cousins

Mary Ellen Grafton hosted the monthly meeting of the Country Cousins Advisory Council of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau held at King's.

Grafton read "Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day" for inspiration.

The general election was the topic of discussion.

It was noted both the American and Ohio Farm Bureaus have determined which candidates are more agriculturally friendly by evaluating the voting record of incumbents and by holding local screening meetings or interviews.

Those deemed more favorable are given the designation, "Friend of Agriculture." Statehouse candidates are given the designation "Friend of Farm Bureau."

The council will hold its November meeting at the home of Cora Kirk.

Irondale dinner planned Sunday

The Irondale Fire Department will be having a salsibury steak dinner Sunday starting at noon at the Irondale Village Building.

National Trail Stitchers to meet

The National Trail Stitchers Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America will meet Nov. 25 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church 1410 Chaplin St., Wheeling. Lori Abraham will finish Monk Clothe Scarf-Swedish Weave project with the group. Those not participating in the scarf project are encouraged to attend and share their own projects.
