The Pleasant Hill School House Historical Museum committee will hold a Holiday Craft Show/Bake Sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The craft show will be held at the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, state Route 213 north of Steubenville.
There will be crafts, baked goods, soup, sandwiches and historical museum T-shirts for sale. All money raised will be used for the restoration and preservation of the 1880 one-room school house on state Route 213. For information, call (740) 283-1626
Steak dinner to be held
Naomi Rebekah Lodge 42 and the men of Colliers United Methodist Church will hold a baked steak dinner from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The cost is $12 for adults and children 11 and up and $5 for children 10 and under for the meal, which includes mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, dessert and beverage. Tickets must be purchased by calling Marsha Daugherty at (304) 748-0447 or Mary K. Radvansky at (304) 527-3344.
Buddy poppies to be distributed
Brooke County members of Weirton Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 2716 will be distributing buddy poppies and collecting donations for disabled veterans Friday and Saturday at the Wellsburg WesBanco drive-through and the Mor For Less Store in Follansbee.
Fundraiser to aid Special Olympics
Sherry Stratton, a Signature Homestyles representative, will sell assorted home decor Sunday to benefit Brooke County Special Olympics.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 1300 Charles St. and include light refreshments. Stratton will sell a variety of items with a portion of the proceeds for Special Olympics.
All attendees will receive a free bingo card, with additional cards given to those who bring a guest, wear a Christmas pin or Christmas-themed clothing or purchase a Signature Homestyles item.

Ornament contest held for youth
Gayle Manchin, wife of Gov. Joe Manchin, invites all kindergarten classes and 12th-grade art students in West Virginia to create a stocking ornament to be displayed on the state capitol Christmas Tree.

The entire winning kindergarten class will be invited to join the governor and the first lady on the platform to "flip the switch" on the huge lighted outdoor tree. Winners, their teachers and families also will be invited to a reception at the mansion.
During the holidays at the Governor's Mansion, the winning ornaments will be displayed in the Grand Foyer, and in January they will be donated to the West Virginia State Museum.
Vets satellite office open Wednesday
The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Dillonvale American Legion, Liberty Street, to assist veterans and their dependents with benefit questions.

Hills Elementary party event planned
Hills Elementary School PTO will hold a fundraiser Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Home party consultants, including Longaberger, Mary Kay and Pampered Chef, will be present.
There also will be craft tables, bake sale and a Chinese auction.
