Harrises to mark 20th anniversary

Emmanuel Church of God in Christ will observe the 20th anniversary of its pastor and his wife, Superintendent James and Herdasine Harris, Sunday during 11:15 a.m. worship services. The service will begin with devotions led by Deacon Robert Yetts and the Emmanuel Praise Team. The senior and Nu Birth choirs led by Delores Wiggins, minister of music, will perform. Talks, recitations and gifts will be given by members, including the youth department, and associate ministers, including Elder Coyt Jeter, Elder Mark Gilliam and pastor designate, Elder David Thomas.

Vanessa Palmer is anniversary chairman. Captains are Alice Herring, Jerry Martin and Brenda Harris and Ida Ray.

Dinner will be served after the service.

Harris received a bachelor's degree in religious education in 1960 from Malone College and a master of science in social administration from Case Western Reserve Graduate School of Applied Social Science.

He retired as director of the Cuyahoga County Department of Human Services in 1987 after 23 years of service as a social worker and administrator. He also taught at Malone College for several years.

World Community Day Friday

World Community Day will be held at First Church of the Nazarene on Woodlawn Road Friday at 1 p.m.

The theme is "God's Wisdom Sets Us Free."

Those attending will look at struggles in their own lives and reflect on how they are called to minister to others, especially those in prison, a spokesman said.

Wintersville chapel to hold fall bazaar

Wintersville Community Chapel, 27 Ward Drive, Wintersville, will hold a fall bazaar Nov. 8. There will be lunch, a bake sale and crafts with carryout available. Proceeds will benefit the missionary Society.

Shopping event set by Bell Chapel

Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, state Route 213, will have a "Shop Till You Drop" day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 8.

Representatives of Avon, Pampered Chief, Tupper Ware and Let's Do Tea and jewelry will be there. There also will be quilted table runners, jewelry and other crafts available, and holiday cookies will be sold. Lunch, including homemade soup and sandwiches will be available.

Finley to have evening of music

Finley United Methodist Church Choir will present an evening of special music at 7 p.m. Sunday. Several musical selections also will be provided by a men's and a mixed ensemble.

Spaghetti dinner slated at Hill Top

There will be a spaghetti and meatball dinner at Hill Top Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, county Road 46 and state Route 213, near Toronto, Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The menu also will include salad, homemade pie and hot and cold beverages. Carryouts will be available. Donations will be accepted. Proceeds will go to a church project.

Four For Him to sing in Brilliant

A Praise and Worship Service featuring Four For Him will be held Sunday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brilliant United Methodist Church, 525 LaBelle St. Refreshments will be served after the service.

Day of Prayer planned by church

"A Day of Prayer" will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Christian Assembly, 1009 Virginia Ave., Follansbee.

Baby shower to benefit A.I.M.

A baby shower to benefit the Assistance in Motherhood Center will be hosted by the Altar-Rosary Society of St. John Catholic Church Sunday following the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Directed by Sharon Maedke, the center has two locations in Steubenville: 248 N. Fifth St. and at the St. John's Professional Building.

Unwrapped baby items should be brought to the shower or can be left in the church vestibule at any time.

Refreshments will be served by the social committee. Rose DeFede will provide a comedy routine for entertainment. Prizes will be awarded.

Donna Shalvis is the group's president, and the Rev. Vincent Joseph is the pastor.

Library to hold story hour

The Follansbee Branch of the Brooke County Public Library will be holding a story hour for children, ages 2-5, and their caregivers Monday and Nov. 17 at noon. Children will enjoy a story, craft, games and snack. Call (304) 527-0860 to register for the free program.

Smithfield EMS dinner Sunday

The Smithfield Emergency Medical Squad is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner Sunday, starting at noon, in the squad headquarters. Adult meals are $6 and children are $3. There are takeout dinners.

The dinner will fund training courses for EMT Cadets joining the squad.

Pasta dinner to be held Sunday

A spaghetti dinner will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday to benefit the Brooke County Animal Advocates' fund for the Brooke County Animal Shelter. The dinner will be held at the Wellsburg Moose Lodge at Ninth and Main streets. The cost is $6 with proceeds going to the group's efforts to care for sick or injured animals from the shelter.
