House of Faith presents worship event
By MARIAN HOUSER, community editor"Walk on the Water" is the title for two days of praise and worship and an experience to have an encounter with Jesus presented by the men and ladies of purpose at the House of Faith, 1913 Estelle Ave., Steubenville.
The first service begins Friday at 6:30 p.m., with registration to be held at 5 p.m. This includes coffee and doughnuts and refreshments to follow the service. A full breakfast will be served Saturday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., and a luncheon will be served at noon. The 9 a.m. special speaker will be Pastor Leon Forte of Athens, Ohio. After lunch the encounter will resume from 1 to 3 p.m.

Mud bog set for Saturday at fairgrounds
An all-terrain vehicle and truck mud bog will be held Saturday at the Jefferson County Friendship Park Fairgrounds. There will be $200 for the first truck to go through the mud pit, according to fair officials.
Registration starts at 1 p.m., and action begins at 2 p.m. Admission is $5, with children 10 and under free. The cost for trucks to enter is $20, and ATVs are $10 per class.
There are first- and second-place class winners.

Family fun night slated at pool
The Carrollton Schools, Civic Club, YWCA and Carroll County Safe Kids will sponsor a free family fun night at the Carroll County Veterans' Memorial Pool Friday, weather permitting. A cook-out is from 6 to 7 p.m., swimming from 7 to 9 p.m. and "movie on the lawn" will start at 9 p.m. A blanket is needed for this.
Recipes sought for annual contest
Bakers have until Aug. 1 to enter the "Bundts Across America Recipe Contest." This third annual national recipe contest is asking for holiday theme recipes that celebrate the 10 popular American holidays of Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas. There will be a finalist for each holiday.
Each recipe will be judged on originality, taste, texture, visual appearance, use of ingredients and an essay describing how the entry represents one of America's popular holidays.
Bakers will be required to capture the essence of the bundt cake, meaning no elaborate use of frostings. Entrants are encouraged to use bundt pans from Nordic, but it is not necessary.
The 10 finalists will be invited to participate in the national baking competition in San Francisco in October, where a team of culinary experts and representatives from Nordic Ware will judge the final cakes and a grand prize winner will be selected. The grand prize winner will be announced on or around Nov. 15, which is National Bundt Cake Day.
Participants must complete the official entry form found online at www.nordicware.com The entry must include a detailed, original bundt cake recipe and a picture of the cake with a slice cut out to show the interior texture. Entries must include an essay of 50 words or less describing how the recipe best represents the holiday selected. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. Aug. 1. Entries will only be accepted online.
Homemakers group to hold picnic
The Jefferson County Homemakers group will hold its annual picnic Tuesday at the Church of the Cross shelter house in East Springfield, starting at 11 a.m.
Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish.
Four Seasons senior group meets
The Four Seasons Senior Citizens Association met at the Serbian American Cultural Center, with Janet Durbin-Kost opening the meeting.
Diane Pastoric gave the prayer entitled "Wake Up Call" and the invocation before dinner and the closing prayer at the end.
Joseph Calvarese introduced Paul Grant, keyboard artist/singer from Mingo Junction who was the entertainment.
Calvarese reported Tony Carrissimi and the Romantics will entertain members at the August meeting. Jeanette LaRosa, reservations chairman, reported there were 106 member reservations. She thanked Esther Solomon, Milton and Eva Fabianich, Mary Rose Spano and Ida Calvarese for helping at the reservation tables.
The menu for August will be a choice of baked or fried fish or baked chicken, Prince Edward mixed vegetables, parsley potatoes, salad and cake.
A get-well card was sent to Ann Gain and a sympathy card to Lorraine Palma on the death of her husband, Domenick, a member for many years.
July birthdays and anniversary celebrants were recognized.
The next meeting will be Aug. 20 at the Serbian American Culture Center.
Steak fry to be held Thursday
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Council will hold a steak fry Thursday at the Council Hall at 6 p.m. The cost is $12. Baked potato, salad and dessert are also on the menu.
