Northern District meeting held
WELLSBURG - The Northern District Clubs of the General Federation of Women's Clubs - West Virginia, held a board meeting at Staffileno's on the River, with Deborah Puskarich, North District president, presiding and welcoming district officers, department chairs, club presidents and state council representatives.
The Northern District is composed of nine federated clubs: Bethany Woman's Club, Sydma Hatzopoulos president; Chester Arts Club, Joanne Hobbs president; Follansbee Twentieth Century Club, Mary Schwertfeger president; Woman's Club of McMechen, Cassie Sherman president; Woman's Club of New Cumberland, Shelva Andrews president; Tuesday Arts Club of Moundsville, Dorothy Sullivan president; Civic League of Warwood, Phyllis Dicks president; Weirton Woman's Club, Delores Azzarello president; and the Woman's Club of Wheeling, Norma Schoene president.
Puskarich represented the district at the 117th GFWC Annual International Convention held June 28 though July 2 at the Chicago Hilton Hotel. She joins the more than 4,000 fellow club members from all across the state in support of West Virginia's candidate for GFWC second vice president, Barbara A. Henry.
Georgianna Tillis, state president, invited club women to attend Summer Conference at Glade Springs Resort near Beckley, Aug. 8-10.
"With special focus on our Heart and S.O.L.E. Project promoting healthy lifestyles for adults and children, we will continue to enhance the lives of others through volunteer service," Tillis said.
Sharon Neeley, fundraising chairman, announced the Northern District Style Show and Luncheon to be held Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. at Undo's, Holiday Inn in Weirton. Phyllis' Fashions of Washington, Pa. will be modeling the fall line of clothing for the petite size 4 to the misses plus size 3X. A Chinese auction with lovely "theme baskets" and a 50/50 drawing will also be held at the show. Tickets are available from your local club presidents or members.
Reservations are due by Sept. 8. Payments can be made with cash, major credit cards or checks, made payable to GFWC WV Northern District.
Jamesie Beecroft, convention chairman, announced District Fall Convention will be Oct. 25, at Stone Presbyterian Church, 25 East Cove Ave., Elm Grove. The Woman's Club of Wheeling is host.
