STEUBENVILLE - The three women were inspecting their work, looking for weeds.

"Those two shrubs on each end will need regular watering or they won't make it," Debby Beatty told City Recreation Director Dwan Johnson.

"And when you are pulling weeds, don't touch the yellow plants. Those will grow and spread out over the lower area and it will all be covered in a nice yellow color," added Angel Tennant.

Beatty, Tennant and Nikki Popola are members of the Holiday Inn Hospitality Committee that recently planted flowers and shrubs at the Belleview Clubhouse.

According to Holiday Inn General Manager Anthony Yocolano, the hospitality committee was formed this year, "to do community service projects."

"It took four employees from the Holiday Inn about five hours to prepare the garden bed, plant the flowers and shrubs and mulch the immediate area.

"We did the planting, and the city will maintain the plants," Yocolano said.

"We will be looking for more community service projects this year so if anyone has a good idea, they can contact us at the Holiday Inn.

"We are looking for our next challenge," added Yocolano.

"We always welcome the opportunity to work with our citizens and businesses in order to beautify our parks," said Mayor Domenick Mucci.

"This will bring some natural beauty to the clubhouse area," declared Mucci.

"The Holiday Inn and Damons employees are giving back to the community, and we appreciate their work. And I can guarantee them that we will keep their work growing and looking beautiful here in front of the clubhouse," Mucci said.

Recreation Coordinator Luke Briningstool said a grassy area where additional shrubs were planted will be maintained as a small sitting area.

"We are planning on putting some benches in there and it will be a quiet place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Belleview Park," noted Briningstool.

Johnson said volunteer work soon will be under way at Beatty Park.

"We have been talking to Lowe's and they are prepared to donate paint and other supplies to clean up and fix the shelters at Beatty Park," explained Johnson.

"Any business or citizen who wants to donate to the revitalization of our community's parks can contact me at (740) 283-6000, extension 4002. We welcome any and all help," Johnson said.
