Little things do mean a lot

I am a firm believer in that cliche, "little things mean a lot." And Lillian and Barbara Ann Losey saved my life this morning. (I'm writing this on Thursday.)

Every time Barbara sends me a writeup for the Jefferson County Retired Teachers or Democratic Women's Club, she includes a little treat. Whenever the fat envelopes arrive, I always laugh and tell anyone questioning the arrival, "Barbara Losey is bribing me again."

Actually, it's not a bribe, just a little something to brighten my day. It might be a few pieces of hard candy or, as this week, a couple of biscotti.

So ... this morning, I forgot my yogurt and banana. Left them sitting in a bag on a chair. I need to eat, but not first thing in the morning, so I sometimes bring it to the office and eat while I work.

My heart sank when I realized what I had done. A headache was in the works, and an empty stomach is a contributor.

But, there was a biscotti the Loseys had sent earlier in the week sitting on my desk.

They may not realize how much she does brighten my day with her thoughtfulness. But they do. And today she was a lifesaver, and I believe in thanking people.

P.S. "Bribes" are not a requirement for publications in this column.
