Committee to honor church graduates

The Rev. Theodore White Scholarship Committee will honor graduates of Mount Zion Baptist Church at a banquet to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in the church social room.
High school and college graduates will be recognized for their academic achievement.
The scholarship is named for the late Rev. Theodore White, who served as Mount Zion pastor for 17 years.
Doris Simon will offer the invocation and blessing. Paulette Johnson will introduce the guest speakers, Roi C. Blackwell and her twin sister, Tori C. Blackwell, daughters of Roy and Regina Blackwell.
Roi C. Blackwell is employed as an assistant director at John Hopkins University Carey Business School. Her sister is an adviser/teacher at the University of Maryland.
Featured on the program will be the Mount Zion Mime Ministry and Roberta Jordan, who will offer a solo selection. Metta Holmes will give the purpose, and Millicent Slaughter will present the awards.
Rose Slaughter, committee chairman, will make acknowledgments, and the closing prayer will be given by the pastor, the Rev. Norries A. Hood Sr.
Scio library to hold used book sale
The Friends of the Scio Branch Library will hold its annual used book sale July 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Brach Room of the Scio Library in Scio.
The sale will include all varieties of hardbacks, as well as paperbacks, magazines, CDs, DVDs and videos.
Anthony Thomas candy bars will be on sale.
Book donations will be accepted throughout June.

Cadiz Lions to seat officers
Cadiz Lions Club will install officers June 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cadiz Presbyterian Church at a ladies dinner.
Members will participate in the Harrison County Relay for Life June 13 at the James Scott Field in Scio and will be making and placing luminaries in honor and/or in memory of cancer victims.
The ninth-annual golf scramble will be June 26 at the Cadiz Country Club. It is a four-person scramble open to all amateur golfers. The shot-gun start will be at 1 p.m. The entry fee of $200 per team includes a golf cart, lunch and a steak dinner. There will be first- and second-place cash prizes, skill prizes, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Proceeds will benefit community projects, eye research, free vision exams and glasses for those less fortunate.

Sandy Day to speak to Rotary
Sandy Day of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will report on her research on Jefferson County veterans at the Steubenville Rotary Club’s Friday noon luncheon meeting.
Ed Kochart, longtime NFL official and retired banker, will tell stories of his career in the NFL at the June 20 meeting, and the club will hold its “Changing of the Guard” noon luncheon meeting at the Steubenville Country Club.
Garden center to hold clothes sale
Wheeling Civic Garden Center at Oglebay Park will hold its annual clothes sale Friday through Sunday. Friday and Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The half-price sale of clothes will be held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A Smithfield Community Yard Sale will be held Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
