STEUBENVILLE — Three juveniles were arrested by City Police after they allegedly broke into a home Thursday morning in the 300 block of South Bend Boulevard and one of the juveniles struggled with a man inside.
Police reported a contractor working next to the burglarized home on South Bend Boulevard noticed three male juveniles around the home about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, and two of the juveniles went around to the rear of the house.
A resident inside the burglarized home said he heard a noise in the basement. He went to investigate and saw one juvenile in the basement and a second juvenile stepping through an open window. The resident yelled at the juveniles and the one stepping through the window took off, police reported.
The resident told police he struggled with the juvenile in the basement and attempted to detain him but the juvenile punched the resident twice in the face. Police reported that juvenile escaped but lost a backpack and sweatshirt jacket. An officer stopped three juveniles in the 1400 block of Belleview Boulevard a short time later and brought them to the house on South Bend Boulevard, where the contractor and resident of the burglarized home identified them as the intruders, police reported. The three juveniles were taken to the juvenile detention center, police reported.
Two of the juveniles are age 14 and the other is 15 years old.
Police Chief William McCafferty said the juveniles also are connected to a Tuesday break-in in the 1200 block of Wellesley Avenue in which two laptop computers were taken. The chief said the two computers were recovered at a home.
