Sectional games moved back

Baseball and softball sectional games were not played on Monday because of the weather. Games have been pushed back a day, with Division II and Division IV sectional softball finals still scheduled to be played on Thursday.

The upper bracket of the Division II and Division IV sectional baseball games will be played today and Thursday with the lower bracket going on Wednesday and Friday.



Patriots reach Elite Eight in softball

PEMBROKE, N.C. — Edison graduate Lakyn Bendle is on her way to the NCAA Division II National finals in Houston as a member of the Francis Marion University softball team.

The Patriots advanced to the quarterfinals by knocking off North Georgia College & State University, 1-0, Saturday night in the South Atlantic Regional Tournament championship game. Francis Marion is 38-14. The Patriots will play at 1:30 p.m. today against Ferris State University.

In the victory against the Saints, Bendle, a junior outfielder, delivered a key bunt single in the first inning helping her team score the lone run of the game.

Bendle’s squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning plated Nicole Reuter with the winning run as Francis Marion University rallied to defeat top-seeded Carson-Newman College 4-3, Thursday evening.

Bendle, who has started all 52 games, has 35 hits, has scored 34 runs, has 15 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.



Wildcats to hold golf outing

RICHMOND — The Edison Wildcats Football annual golf outing will be June 7 at Spring Hills Golf Club. The four-person scramble is $50 per person and includes green fees, golf cart, breakfast, lunch and a buffet dinner. Door prizes, drawings and cash prizes will also be available.

JKYSC holding soccer registration

WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson Kiwanis Youth Soccer Club is holding on-line registration through May 31. Go to www.jkysc.con, click registration and follow the instructions. If families do not have access to a computer, registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the JKYSC soccer facility.

The cost is $50 per person, with a $20 late registration fee effective June 1.

The cost of the 2009 spring season is $30 per person with returning 2008 fall players receiving a $15 discount.

There is now a two-hour volunteer work requirement per player. But, a player can opt out of the requirement for a $20 fee, which is collected at registration. It will be refunded at the end of the season if the volunteer requirement is met..

Registration payments can be mailed to: JKYSC Registrar, P.O. Box 4721, Steubenville, OH 43952.

Children are eligible to play if born between Aug. 1, 1994, and July 31, 2004. New players must submit a copy of a birth certificate to the registrar.

Challenged athletes are also welcome to participate in a special soccer program. It is for players age 8 to 18 on Aug. 1.
