Cadiz golfers launch season

CADIZ — The Cadiz Women’s Golf Association launched its 2008 season with a four-woman scramble followed by a social hour and dinner. Peg Buchanan offered the invocation.
Nep Rowland presided and welcomed Karen Michalo as a new member.
Officers are Rowland and Marlene Holloway, co-chairmen; Marcia Bedway, secretary; and Jo Anne Watson, treasurer.
Committee chairmen are:
Club championship, Billie Stanwick and Joanne Mahlie; decorations, Buchanan and Ginny Ferrell; East Central, Cathy Shepherd and Cindy Shepherd; rules and handicap, Stanwick and Millie Romshak; interclub, Theresa Stotler and Rowland; locker room, Betty Thompson and Doris Harmon; nominating, Mahlie, Romshak, Ferrell and Nancy Beckert; publicity, Eleanor Weiss and Bedway; ringers, Ila Walrath; Ryder Cup, Stanwick and Cindy Shepherd; spring handicap, match tournament, Stotler, Ferrell and Buchanan; Cadiz Classic Ladies Open, play and pairings, officers, and events, Bonnie Betham.
Stanwick explained changes in the handicap divisions.
The first round of the spring Handicap tournament has been held.
Rowland announced in lieu of the usual guest day or invitational, the association will hold the first Cadiz Classic Ladies Open. The event will be a One Best Ball of Four to be held July 16. Any golfer with a certified USGA handicap can participate.
Winner of the play of the day were:
Long drive, A flight, Buchanan; B flight, Jane Myers; and C flight, Ann Millison.
Closest to the pin, Buchanan.
The winning team was Rowland, Watson, Holloway and Weiss. Second place went to Bedway, Ferrell, Beckert and Walrath. Third-place team was Buchanan, Carol Spiker, Millison and Myers.
Pots of pansies used as table centerpieces were given as door prizes.
