Old Fort Steuben Project to hold annual dinner

The annual Membership Dinner of the Old Fort Steuben Project will be held May 21 at 6 p.m. in the Visitor Center at Historic Fort Steuben.
Guest speaker for the evening will be Timothy Anderson, chairman of the Department of Geography at Ohio University in Athens. Anderson will speak on “Early Settlement in the Ohio Country and the Formation of Ohio’s Regional Cultural Landscapes.”
The dinner will also feature a silent auction and a review of the year’s activities. The event is $25 per person and reservations deadline is Friday.
Project participants sought
The Schoolhouse Project invites all those interested in preserving and restoring the Pleasant Hill School on state Route 213 to attend the next planning meeting to be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Visitor Center of Historic Fort Steuben.
The project is working with the Community Foundation of Jefferson County to obtain funding to repair the roof, floor and windows of the 1865 structure.
The committee is gathering information on the history of the school from old records and former students. Photos of the building and the classes that attended there are being sought.
Tax-deductible donations to the Schoolhouse Project can be made out to the Community Foundation with “Schoolhouse Project” in the memo line and sent to P.O. Box 1822, Steubenville OH 43952.
Library lists upcoming activities
The book character “Miss Spider” is planning a visit to the main library and branches of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.
There will be a movie, craft and refreshments.
Visits will take place May 19, main library, 3:30 p.m., and Toronto branch, 6 p.m.; May 20, Schiappa branch, 6 p.m.; May 21, Brilliant branch, 5:30 p.m.; May 22, Adena branch, 5:30 p.m.; and May 24, Tiltonsville branch, noon, and Dillonvale branch, 6 p.m.
Movie Night also will be held at the branches. Call the library to register and for the movie selection. Dates are:
