October 6, 2013

To the editor: U.S. Rep. David McKinley, R-Wheeling, is so wrong. Look at the squandering of the United States by members of Congress by shutting down our government....

What conclusion can one possibly reach when considering those who still support Obamacare other than they must lack the ability to think rationally?

You act as though you know so much about economics, and then say: "that will create spending by the government that will create new dollars." What in the world are you talking about? How does the government spending money (which was taken from those of us who pay taxes in the first place), create more money? Are you referring to the stimulus? When the government prints money from nothingness, thus decreasing the value of all money, including our savings? Inflation is making us all poor.

Suggestion: instead of regurgitating everything you hear on NPR, think critically. Look objectively at countries with socialized medicine (hint: Michael Moore is not objective). It doesn't work. We're seeing that RIGHT NOW in the US, and Obamacare isn't even fully implemented yet! Put down the Kool-Aid!

The government is whatever the people running it say it is. If you think right now that those in power want to help you, you're kidding yourself.

Your letter is so typical of the internet. You squeeze so many lies into a few paragraphs that it would take a dissertation-length paper to show how incredibly wrong you are on each point.

I have no intention of wasting my time doing so, but I will make a few points. Hagrid beat me to one of them. Another is: A college education wouldn't cost NEARLY as much as it does right now if it wasn't subsidized by the government (thus making said loans less necessary in the first place). The evidence you choose to back your erroneous economic beliefs is, itself, evidence of how wrong you are.

This, like most issues, goes back to the question, "What is the proper role of the government?" Giving out educational loans is certainly not one, that is for the private sector to do.

Mike, why didn't Keynesian theories work when our President spent over 750 billion dollars on his stimulus? According to Keynesian economics, that should have generated a tremendous amount of jobs, and unemployment should have dropped dramatically. None of that happened.
