Concerns about fire station

May 12, 2013

To the editor: I am writing this letter to express concern about the closing of the Pleasant Heights Fire Station. I think it is very unjust to put the lives of so many citizens in jeopardy....

Two firefighters at a fire station will not help anyone. Get over the closing and move on.

Well,Steubenville has not had a population of 38,000 since the 1940's. Back then they had seven council members. Now, there are about 18,000 residents and the same number of council members, except now the council members make more money, have more benefits and represent fewer people. Do the math! That is where all of the money went. the same math applies to fire department, water department, police department etc. Every department operates with higher salaries and work for fewer residents. It's not that difficult to understand. If Davison ends up leaving, I wish her good luck in the future and apologize to her for taking a job in this*****hole and getting beat up by the Ohio Valley political mafia!

@TomSays, I was a resident on Pleasant Heights a few years ago my house caught fire, the fire department was at my house literally 3 minutes after I called in 911, "Two" firemen showed up, when I directed to him to where the fire was he entered my home while the other firemen set the pump on his truck and joined the other fireman that was already putting out the fire. By the time the downtown firetruck showed up the fire in my kitchen was already out. The professionalism of those men and the quickness of their response saved me a ton of money. So Tom my statement to you is "Move On". You have no clue oh yeah and Get over IT!

The "Powers That Be" are crazy, thinking that it's a good idea to close the Pleasant Heights Fire Station & you people living there are crazy for not fighting for your Fire Station...that hilltop is a tinder box, as are all the other old neighborhoods...you've got to make a new plan...if just one small fire gets out of control, many homes could be destroyed & people will die.

Ms. Brown's argument makes plenty of sense. May cooler and wiser heads prevail and keep that fire station open.
