Also, kids are naturally interested in things that adults do, and handle. If kids are brought up shooting, hunting with, and handling firearms from an early age, they are less likely to engage in behavior like that you mentioned.

PlCorona, you said that criminals get guns from people that own them do not lock them up properly. Although I agree that safes are a deterrent, there should not be a needfor them. My point is that people should not be trying to steal them, locked up or not. If somthing is in someone's house, car, shed, or on their porch or in their yard, it is theirs and nobody has the right to take it. However, criminals do not think that way.

RPG0340 I never stated that a criminal had a right to be anywhere, let alone in someones home. rr1382 The parents of this child asked if we were going to press charges on their son..My answer was "No hes a 10 yr old child! It's your responsibility not his!"..To add insult to all of this the police officer who showed up at the house asked my son "What did you do to provoke him?"..There was no provocation he was simply playing with it..Nothing was done..I'm sure there are responsible owners out there..This was just an example of the stupidity of some owners..And how lax the law is concerning this issue..That little boy could have easily killed himself or another child.

It’s tragic that so many seem to be unaware that the courts have on numerous occasions ruled that the Police have NO legal obligation to protect citizens from harm! The ultimate protection is the responsibility of the individual, which is the purpose of the Second Amendment that explains it as a pre-existing Right unalterable by Government.

PLCorona, although I agree with firearms being locked up and secure, WTF do you not understand about a criminal not having the right to be in your home? I have a safe, I moved it downstairs, so someone could move it upstairs and out of the house when I'm not there. It is not the fault of the owner when his property is stolen, it is the criminal. Keeping scumbags behind bars would be a great start.

Plcorona, they should have been charged with child endangerment and put away. Then not allowed to own a gun ever again. Although, I'm a firm believer if a criminal wants a gun, they will just get one on the black market. That's why law abiding, responsible individuals have the right to arm themselves.

Justin I am not anti gun but, consider the other side of this coin.Irresponsible gun owners.Criminals end up with guns because the people who own them do not lock them up like they should.Collectors, and hunters alike toss them under their bed or in a closet leaving them open for a robbery. When my son was a child he was almost shot by a 10 yr old who was left alone after school for a few hours everyday in a house with 13 unlocked firearms. This child also traded a hand gun for a toy to another child. My son called me from a friends home once to tell me his buddy had taken his dads gun out of the closet to show him..This kids father was a part time deputy!.The kid knew where his dad kept the key.It was on the news a few years ago that 73 guns were stolen from a vacant house and one was found in the car of a 17 yr old in Wheeling. What the*****were they doing in a vacant house? For every 1 responsible owner we have 2 that are not. Cant control the population so we need to control access.
