WINTERSVILLE — The students in Julie Robinson’s consumer financial management class at Indian Creek High School were taught valuable life savings lessons recently during America Saves Week. The nationally recognized week is dedicated to encouraging and assisting individuals to assess their savings progress and take action to advance that process, according to officials. According to national officials, “The personal savings rate is near zero. Most Americans are not saving adequately for retirement and most lower-income households do not have adequate emergency savings for unexpected expenditures like a car repair. But with more societal encouragement and support, more Americans will be persuaded to build wealth, not debt.” The students in Robinson’s class learned the importance of savings during an event in the fall called “Real Money, Real World,” where each student was given a proposed occupation, a salary and a lifestyle.
