FOLLANSBEE — At a time when both parents in many households are working and there are an increasing number of homes headed by single parents, a large number of children are home alone after school. But the senior volunteers and leaders of a local nonprofit program are offering parents a place where their children can go to receive help with their homework, take part in a variety of activities and partake of a hot meal. Angela Kocher, executive director of the Brooke-Hancock-Ohio-Marshall Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, said response to the After-school Adventures program has been outstanding, thanks to a faithful group of talented volunteers and the support of several groups. The program was begun as an experiment last year by Kocher and a handful of RSVP members. Funded by the Corp. for National and Community Service, RSVP matches senior and retired volunteers with non-profit organizations they can help.
