STEUBENVILLE — Local Republicans turned to music and songs Saturday in order to encourage voters to support the McCain-Palin ticket. Local musician Jean Schalk of Steubenville strummed her guitar in the parking lot in front of the Jefferson County Republican Party headquarters on Sunset Boulevard, singing to passing motorists and urging them to, “not fall for the lies of the liberals because John McCain is the right man.” Schalk said she wrote the song as a way of supporting Sen. John McCain and his campaign for president. Schalk’s mother, Shirley Schalk said she came up with the idea for a campaign songfest, “ a way to do a little sharing, make a little noise and show Steubenville that we all care about our future.” “I have put the word out to everyone I know and have invited students from Franciscan University of Steubenville to join us.
