Elway punted on 1st down
March 22, 2012 - Mike Mathison
It sure didn't take long for John Elway to boot Tim Tebow out of Denver, something I am guessing he has wanted to do since the day owner Pat Bowlen asked him to be in the front office.
It's like Elway was facing first down after landing stud free agent Peyton Manning and punted, with Tebow being the football.
The thing is, without Tebow Elway would have never landed Manning.
Do you really think the Broncos would have won the pathetic AFC West and defeated the Steelers in the playoffs with Kyle Orton taking snaps? Yep, I don't think so, either.
Tebow is unconventional, untidy in the pocket and has a lot of work to do. But, he wins, is a really good football player and, from what I can tell, a really good teammate that is good for any community in this country.
So, Tim, you can now have that toddlin' town -- New York, New York.
Really, I like the fit.
Tebow will fit in with the father of the year -- Antonio Cromartie -- and Mr. Mouth in head coach Rex Ryan. There is too much buzz around social media on how Tebow will handle Ryan's truck-driver mouth. My guess is that Tebow has been in enough locker rooms over the years where every third word is of the four-letter variety.
You know the kind of language -- the type you hear on the streets from your favorite 12-year-old.
