| | Shaq to say goodbyeJune 1, 2011 - Mike MathisonThe story is out that Shaq will retire soon from the NBA. It's about time. Shaq was a really good center, but he his no better that fourth on my list. He is behind Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain. I love his attitude, his smile and the way, for the most part, he handles himself. But, I still wouldn't want him as my starter. All four were dominant centers and Shaq easily has the best personality of them. He hung on two years too many and this year it was painful to watch him play, the little he did. You can compare Shaq with Wilt. And my favorite Wilt stat is that he finished with 23,924 rebounds and 23,497 field goals attempted. They were both terrible free throw shooters. In his last year in the league, Wilt was 426 for 586 from the field (.727), grabbed 1,526 rebounds and handed out 365 assists. Wilt averaged 30.1 points and 22.9 rebounds a game for his career. Kareem is the best NBA center ever to play the game offensively. Russell is the best NBA center to ever play the game defensively.
