Valentine's Day

February 15, 2011 - Eddie Kokosinski
Did you spend $400 on chocolates, roses, gifts and dinner this past weekend? I didn't. And I'm fairly certain that my better half is ok with that.

Instead of chocolates, she got a homemade salad.

Instead of gifts (bears, candles, jewelry) I got us something we would both enjoy, a racing video game (Split/Second, which is fantastic for hardcore and casual gamers).

Instead of going out to dinner, I made raspberry vinnegarette boneless pork chops (raspberry vinnegarette dressing mixed with brown sugar and used as a glaze while it cooked) with a baked potato (coated in olive oil and that red seasoning salt).

She did get a rose however, but not a huge vase filled with 29 flowers that costs $150 dollars. Would she like to have that. Probably. But what girl wouldn't? Does she need it for validation? Hope not.

If you have to wait 364 days to have one awesome day with your other half, what does that say about you? It should be a super awesome, hippie type love fest everyday, shouldn't it? Granted there are days where you sit and plot on how to play a real life version of Clue, and then an episode of CSI stops you, but it shouldn't be once a year because of some over commercialized "holiday". I choose to make her dinner because I want to. Not because I feel like I have to. If I felt like that, she'd get ham sandwiches for dinner while I had some feast fit for a viking king.

What did you do for Valentine's Day? Did you spend it with someone? Or did you sit alone on the couch, loathing the holiday that seems to hate and taunt you? Either way, I hope it was fun!
