We talkin bout practice? Practice!?

November 12, 2010 - Eddie Kokosinski
Practice may make a good start at perfect, but actually playing the game is what really makes perfect. You can be awesome at practice and suck when it becomes time to shine.

I can't get better playing Call of Duty: Black Ops online multiplayer by playing once a week and playing tutorials for 4 or 5 days. I need actual time playing to hone my skills. Other players move vastly different from the games A.I. Player reaction is different in an even bigger scale. While the A.I. is unlikely to fall back, a player could fall back, chuck a grenade or talk to his teammates on his headset and tell them he needs backup - creating a trap of sorts (tho rarely seen).

Fleury won't get his confidence back until he plays more than once a week. He needs to stay out there and work out his problems. The game in Phoenix last week is a good example. Played the night before, a bad PP and second period beat them, and then he started the next night. He hadn't played more than once in a week for awhile and while he did have all that rest, he wasn't in his usual game shape to do that.

He does give up soft goals, but his defense also lets alot of opportunities and game changing plays develop around him. It's a team effort, but it is alot easier to blame your 5 million dollar goalie for their troubles, because you didn't hear alot of clammer on Johnson for giving up 4 goals in the third did you? Of course not. Once it happens to Johnson (the 1.2 mill goaltender - if that) it automatically becomes the 5 million per player new defense-man problem and Geno's problems.

It isn't a coincidence that Johnson has been a 10 year backup. He fills that roll great, but start your franchise goaltender or he won't be fresh enough to make the playoffs anyway.
