#1 shouldn't be #1

August 25, 2010 - Eddie Kokosinski

While I have no doubt that the Expendable's is a good movie (the better half doesn't want to sit thru 2 hours of 80s cliche action) the best movie out right now is Scott Pilgrim vs The World. The story is great, the effects (video and sound) are spectacular and it is a movie that will please both crowds looking for action and romance. BUT it isn't number one. It is barely in the top 10 actually. The people who clamored about this movie (online) for 3 months or more didn't help it. Sure it made around 20 million so far, but it should have done that the first weekend. Instead the people that talked about it online nonstop decided to not support something they thought was going to be awesome. No doubt they downloaded it hours after or even before it came out. How do I know? Thats the kind of crowd that talked about it. The hardcore internet crowd who helped spread the word about this spectacular movie kept their 7 or 9 dollars and downloaded it for free.

I've been guilty of doing this before, but my movie wasn't released around the area because it was deemed to satanic or violent (can't remember the reasons and it was House of 1000 Corpses) because it was a Rob Zombie movie and it - getting back on track, or it wasn't in theaters anymore and was just waiting on the DVD release. If the movie was good, I'd go out and buy it (District 9 & Batman: Under The Red Hood are the most recent). I typically don't do it alot. Maybe, MAYBE, I download 2 movies a year, but that is very rare.

It's the same thing as music industry tho. It is more convenient to download the CD (for free) than to spend 12 or 17 dollars for something that may or may not even have 4 or 5 good songs. I've heard that most artist don't care (they do in some way) because they want to be  heard and they make most of their money on touring and merchandise sales anyway. So those few artist I heard it from, ruined it for most everyone else from me. The only CDs I buy are usually from bands that I absolutely love (Ozzy, All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, Disturbed, GWAR) anything else, I seldom buy without hearing them first. Although SkeletonWitch did just benefit from seeing them at Ozzfest (which was freaking awesome!) so I heard them, knew I liked their sound and spent the 9.99 on iTunes.

When Iron Man 2, Predators, Scott Pilgrim, and Piranha come to DVD, I'll splurge the 15 bucks for them too.

*PS - Mark Madden said 'don't be surprised at a 50 year streak from the Pirates.' I hope we can prove him wrong as soon as next year. I don't want to be 55 and only knowing that the last time they won was when I was 4. I hate that now. So lets hope that this whole earning money fiasco is working how they say it is. I'd love to start going to Pirate games again sometime JUST for the game. Not whatever they are giving away that night. LETS GO BUCS!

already have the album.

I just want to make sure that my money is going directly into the hands of the artists instead of a label. The music industry is shifting from major labels to smaller independent labels or DIY methods of production/promotion. I can sleep easier at night knowing that my money went to help the artists tour expenses. Knowing my luck, if the label received it, they would probably use it to advertise to an audience that has no interest in the artists to being with.

We live in a world of instant gratification. If we don't care for the iTunes previews or the illegal downloads, then we just move on to the next download. My biggest problem with illegally downloading is that you lose feeling of being lost in music.

I try to take the same approach my dad did when he was young. Treat it like it was your only twenty dollars and this album is going to get you through any hard time in your life.

I feel lost without the album art. I'll study the packaging and lyrics and try to understand why the artists is representing themselves this way (visually). A lot of the times, no one knows how to relate to the artist due to the constant citations, but they never took the time to study the album art that promotes their words.

I do only buy my albums at the artists shows. With the lack of sales in the music scene, some artist are resurrecting vinyl. Most of the records comes with a free MP3 download coupon which I immediately tear up and throw away if i
