Cash changing hands
July 10, 2008 - Mike Mathison
Now that Rich Rodriguez is going to write his alma mater, West Virginia University, a check for $4 million dollars, will that make him a major donor to the school? A major contributor? A major benefactor?
Will he get a building named after him (other than a frat outhouse)?
The joke is our newsroom the night we watched WVU choke to Pitt was that, right then and there, the WVU hierarchy should have gone in and fired Rodriguez.
After all, Rodriguez was hired to win THAT game -- that one game -- to get the Mountaineers to the national championship game.
Not only did they not win it, they laid a big fat egg.
That would be the yoke that was dripping all over Rodriguez's face.
So, the story goes that the WVU brass called him into a meeting off-campus somewhere with some major big-wigs and, basically, tells the head coach that they don't think he has talked to Michigan and they think he's bluffing.
So, Rodriguez turns in his gold-and-blue for the maize-and-blue and it costs him a check with six zeroes.
I wonder what Bill Stewart's buyout is?
